Cosmofil Language Option

cosmofil is for modern cosmopolites.

True cosmopolites know no borders – the whole world is their country. Wherever they go, they aim to fit in with the culture and connect with the people they meet. Some might call this an unrealistic ideal in today’s world, but at cosmofil we believe that making meaningful connections is not only possible, but definitely worth trying.

Help with the local language

cosmofil is here to help independent travellers understand more about other cultures and the people they meet, weaving a thread of friendship around the world. The first obstacle when establishing contact with local people is often language. English might be the lingua franca but it is by no means completely universal. Try greeting an elderly Greek lady by first saying “good morning” and then “kalimera sas” and see the difference of warmth in her smile… You’re already one step closer to the cosmofil experience.

Because we all have different language needs and objectives, cosmofil offers three levels of language support:

  • cosmofil Icebreaker
  • cosmofil Globetrotter
  • cosmofil Cosmopolite

Choose cosmofil Icebreaker if you have very little or no knowledge of the language. Your host(s) will take you through greetings, polite forms of address and essential basic questions and requests to use with local people, in shops, restaurants etc.

cosmofil Globetrotter is for those who already have some knowledge of the language, which they wish to build on. It has been devised for Adult Education intermediate learners and school children that still need support to be able to practice the language with local people, a huge step up from classroom pair work! The list of topics to choose from is an extension of the cosmofil Icebreaker list.

cosmofil Cosmopolite is for people who have a firm grasp of the language, but feel a little rusty and need some confidence-building support.

Unless specified, your hosts are generally not trained teachers and will therefore not offer you conventionally structured lessons. Once you have decided which level to go for, contact your chosen hosts to arrange with them how and when the language support will take place.
