Le Domaine du Petit Bois
I was really looking forward to my stay in Burgundy at the Le Domaine du Petit Bois. We had booked for three nights at the end of June for bed and breakfast with evening meals.
I was expecting Lydie to be a lively, welcoming person because I could sense this in the e-mails we exchanged before our visit, and her house on the website looked very attractive.
And the reality—our en suite room was beautiful as well as comfortable. Lydia’s sympathetic restoration of this interesting old house is still in progress and she is managing to incorporate modern conveniences without losing the character of the rooms.
We enjoyed a swim in the good sized pool and relaxed in the pretty garden.
Lydie and her family are charming and could not have been more welcoming. She would chat with me in French if I wanted or speak English with my friends. She was attentive when we needed something but disappeared discretely when we didn’t. She gave us advice on where to go to taste and buy local wine and each course of our evening meal was matched with a different wine and included local specialities. Our breakfasts were a delight, light, delicious and plentiful. All the food, often organic or artisanal, was sourced locally. We would not hesitate to stay here again and can recommend it those who want to enjoy a real French experience or just relax in pretty, comfortable surroundings.
