La Pierre Bleue

Description of accommodation and area: La Pierre Bleue is situated in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, famous for places of outstanding beauty such as La Vallee des Merveilles, Madone des Fenestres, Le Boreon etc. The house is tradional and stylish, with a private car park,a garden and a large terrace where guests can have their breakfast. The rooms are spacious and offer lovely views over the valley or the mountains. Please note that they are unable to take one night only bookings during the high season. This is due to the fact that La Pierre Bleue is a family run Chambre d'Hotes and that they wish to offer the best possible service to their customers who are guaranteed to receive a friendly and authentic welcome. Unfortunately, they are sorry to say they can't accept dogs or cats and the rooms are all non smoking.

The Cosmofil experience: They will be more than happy to help you make the best of your stay in their beautiful area. they will advise you on walks and places to visits, as well as things to do. They have maps you are welcome to borrow and they can help you plan your excursions. They'll be there on your return to answer your questions or discuss any local issue.

Language support: They speak English and Italian but they will be happy to converse with you in French. From the "icebreaker" to the "cosmopolitan" level, they will do their best to give you the French language support you require, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Should you wish to have structured lessons in the language of Moliere, they would contact a local teacher and organise private lessons depending on their availability. Please specify your requirements with your booking.

Activities: Walking in the Mercantour: you will discover beautiful lakes with changing colours, waterfalls and majestic mountain peaks. You'll almost certainely see chamois, ibex, mouflons and marmots. Guided walks are available and the famous Via Ferrata will give climbers a guaranteed thrill. A visit to the nearby Alpha wolf sanctuary will help you understand better this much maligned animal and introduce you to the life of the men and women of the Mercantour. A short hour's drive will take you to the Cote d'Azur, its museums, theatres, trendy shops and cafes.

Other: Join them at their Table d'Hotes (July and August only) and enjoy their specialties with some lively conversation, in French of course!

The hosts: Silvana and Richard's passion for the mountains led them to move to the historic mountain climbing centre of Saint Martin Vesubie in 1980. They started renovating La Pierre Bleue in 1995 and then decided to share their beautiful house with like-minded people. Both keen cooks, they produce wonderful dishes with a hint of the Italian influence of their origines. You will sample their homemade produce at "l'aperitif"-orange wine, wallnut wine and Nice olives-, and enjoy their local specialties. They love going mushroom picking and make jam with wild fruit they gather locally. Silvana's passion for gardening is evident in the lovely garden around the house. Richard teaches music and is the choir master of the Choeurs du Mercantour. He is also the artistic director of the Festival International de choeurs de montagne de St Martin Vesubie, which takes place evey year in July.
